Frequently asked questions.

What is the cost of the trip?

  • The land cost for the trip is $1,900 Canadian.  Inclusive of all taxes.

  • Early Bird Booking Bonus $200 if you book before December 1, 2019.

  • Single supplement, for your own room, is $400 Canadian. 

  • International flights are not included.

  • Cancellation fees

    • Deposit date to 60 days pre-tour cancellation loss of deposit.

    • 59 - 0 days pre-tour cancellation 50% loss of cost of trip.

  • A $100 fee will be charged for name changes.

 

How do I pay?

  • A $500 deposit if required at the time of booking.

  • Final Payment is due 90 prior to tour.

  • If you book within 90 days of the tour, payment is in full.

  • Payments can be made by personal cheque or money order payable to: ELDERTREKS

  • Visa or Mastercard is accepted* 

*Note: Credit card payments will incur a 3% merchant fee per transaction

What is not include the cost?

  • International flights, Mandatory Insurance, drinks, gratuities/tips, any non-included meals, and your dance instructors club entrance fees and drinks (if you choose to invite them).

 

How many people are on the trip?

  • The minimum numbers of travellers required to run is ten (10) and the maximum is sixteen (16).

 

When will the trip departure be confirmed?

  • A minimum of ten (10) travellers must have paid prior to September 13, 2019 to guarantee the trip.  Once the minimum number has been reached, additional travellers have until November 1, 2019 to join.

 

Will someone meet us, take us to the airport?

  • Booking Bonus!  If you book the recommended flight your airport transfer is included in the price and you will be greeted at the airport by a representative of Shumdesalsa.

 

How will we be travelling?

  • Our trip will include a wide variety of transportation including; bus, private taxi, ferry and by foot.

 

Do I need to know how to dance Cuban salsa or do I need a dance partner?

  • We will meet your dancing abilities by pairing you with your own Cuban instructor!  Our local instructors are very talented and patient with beginners and capable to challenging if you are a pro!

 

Will we go out dancing at night in Havana?

  • Yes!  There will be an organized opportunity every night to dance!  One night we will be dancing in a wonderful restaurant, the other nights we will go to a variety of clubs.  You will have the option of inviting your dance instructor to join you.  If you choose to invite your dance teacher, you will be responsible for paying their entrance fee and purchase their drinks.

 

Where are we staying?

  • Our accommodation is a private residence in Miramar, a Havana neighbourhood.  Cubans are allowed by the government, with a license, to operate a Casa Particular.  This is a wonderful opportunity to learn how most Cubans live day to day. 

 

What meals are included?

  • Breakfast is included for seven days, seven lunches and one dinner.

 

What else will be doing besides dancing?

  • Most days we will visiting points of interest around Havana, that may include Old Havana, Regla and the Alicia Alonzo Theatre.  There will be one day trip outside of Havana.  There will also be one “free day” to rest or shop!

 

Who is leading the trip?

  • Dailyn Martinez who was professionally trained dancer in Cuba and now lives in Toronto, Canada, is the lead guide.  Robert Brohman, from Toronto, who dances salsa and has travelled to Havana and Cuba many times, is the main “logistics” person on the trip.

 

Is there an itinerary or more information?

  • Yes. Once you have booked you will receive a detailed itinerary and background information on Cuba, as well as Cuban music and dance.

 

Do I need a Tourist Card (Visa) or Medical insurance?

  • Yes, to both.  Your Cuban tourist card is included with your air ticket (if departing from Canada). 

  • Medical insurance is mandatory.  This is a requirement by the Cuban government and you may be asked at airport to provide proof.

 

Where can I buy medical insurance?

  • Travel insurance is offered from most banks, as well as easily obtained online through many providers.  ElderTreks our host agency can also arrange travel insurance for you.

 

Where do I book my flight to Havana?

  • You are free to book your flights on your own through your preferred method.  ElderTreks our host agency can also arrange your flights for you.

  • If you do arrange your flights on your own, you will be required to send the flight confirmation to our host agency so we can arrange transfers.

 

Who is ElderTreks?

  • ElderTreks is our host travel agency based in Toronto, Ontario.  They have been in business for over 30+ years and are a TICO accredited agency.

  • All payments must be made payable to ELDERTREKS.
