Shumdesalsa's first class was held in a small studio near Bloor and Lansdowne, Toronto in 2015.  Dailyn Martinez and Robert Brohman both dreamed of starting a business and took a chance offering Cuban salsa styling classes and bachata lessons.

From that inauspicious start, Dailyn and Robert have expanded Shumdesalsa to include tours to Havana Cuba with ElderTreks, performance classes and lessons in three locations.

With very different talents and abilities, the two have created an energetic and resilient team!

Dailyn was born in Cuba and is a passionate performer and instructor.

At age 13 Dailyn started her professional training at the Juan Pablo Duarte school.  In 2000 Dailyn graduated from Escuela Nacional de Espectaculos Musicales and Variedades with honours.

Prior to immigrating to Canada, Dailyn instructed and performed at the Teatro America and Havana Night Dance Company.

Two of Dailyn's many strengths as an instructor are her ability to bring out each individual's personal style and an extremely positive attitude.

Robert enjoys Cuban salsa dancing, especially in Havana, Cuba!  After several decades of playing rugby, Robert decided it was time for a change and took his first lesson with Dailyn in 2009, just weeks before travelling to Havana and taking classes.

Since Shumdesalsa's inception, Robert has taken on numerous tasks working to grow the company.  The learning curve has been steep, and rewarding, learning to build websites, plan dance tours to Havana, edit videos and search for locations across Toronto and Havana for a wide variety of classes and events.

After thirty years in education, Robert has a tremendous amount of knowledge about teaching and learning, as well as a passion for leadership theory.  His Masters is in Educational Administration, which has proven beneficial since Shumdesalsa started business in 2015.
